Vessel No. 72 is a hand-built stoneware bowl that highlights the expressive potential of atmospheric firing. Finished with layered slips, iron oxide, Shino glaze, and copper-bearing glazes, the surface transformed during cone 10 reduction as the copper shifted from green to deep reds, maroons, and smoky charcoal. Fine crackling, carbon trapping, and rust-colored markings emerge across a creamy white ground, creating a richly layered surface that changes with the light. The softly fluted rim and broad, open form frame these painterly glaze interactions, while exposed clay and fractured textures preserve evidence of the making and firing process. The result is a piece that balances the spontaneity of reduction firing with carefully considered composition and material exploration.
